According to folklore: Gong ting Pu-erh tea was tributed to the palace from the Qing Dynasty, and was limited to the “Royal Imperial” tea of the finest quality. “Round as the white moon in three autumn, fragrant in nine fields of orchids” is the praise given by Qianlong’s first taste of pu-erh.

Gongting Pu’er tea is made from the fresh leaves of Yunnan large-leaf tea trees, and its harvesting standard is one bud and one leaf at the beginning of development, or one bud and two leaves at the beginning of development. Meanwhile, its production process is more complicated, going through multiple processes of killing, twisting, drying, stacking and pressing.

From the appearance of the tea leaves, it is superior to the fat and proportionate shape with less broken tea, and inferior to the fine and tight trivial ropes, and from the bottom of the leaves, the palace pu-erh tea is superior to the brownish red color of the bottom of the leaves, oily and lustrous, and the leaf quality is not easy to rot and harden, and inferior to the lustrous bottom of the leaves or the leaf quality is corrupt and hardened.
